Collective embroidery workshop with the MA Fine Art KASK Ghent
Over the course of four days I collaborated with students of the MA Fine Art at KASK Ghent on collective embroidery, cosmos building and storytelling.
The aim of the workshop was to collectively work on one piece that was to be experienced from multiple angles, to go big and to be bold and foremost to work without a preconceived idea of what the end-product might be. To start of the workshop I introduced different embroidery techniques and asked how and if unravelling threads and fabrics with more than one side could give us a new understanding of our life's stories?
Giving the students agency over the process, given them the possibility to take decisions organically and collectively, it was important to me, that the crafting was and remained to be a positive experience. Many of the students had never before worked with thread and needle, but collectively they held what was unfolding.
A huge thank you to all the students who participated in the workshop - it has been an honour to work with you all.
